Seth and Cass; they are the people we love and hate. Well actually I don't love them at all, I only hate them...
In case you don't know who they are... they are the two major admins for Haven City Land of Wars. During the past few weeks they have made it clear that they are terrible at what they do. Now don't get me wrong, I've always known they were terrible admins, but they have just been inexcusably terrible this last week. Stupidly terrible actually. They don't even know what it means to manage a forum. "What did they do that was so terrible?" you might be asking if you haven't been on LoW (Land of Wars) recently. Well first off, they put the forum on a special lock down mode out of the blue and without warning. Forum maintenance, it's called. What's forum maintenance for? MAINTAINING THE FORUM!! They did no such thing, only locked the forum down and twiddled their thumbs.
Unfortunately, that's only the tip of the iceberg. The big problem is quite possibly the stupidest thing I have ever heard of (well maybe not... but it's still pretty damn stupid). Here's the letter they sent everyone.

It is to our discouragement that we must inform all members that this message board is now terminated. The reasons for this action being:
- Lack of member cooperation. There are some of you who deliberatley choose to disobay the laws. It has happened too many times to be something we can let slide.
- The story line of Jak has been LOST. The whole point of this message board is indeed to role play our characters in the world of Jak. That was important to us... not so with all of you.
- Advertisements of other Jak and Daxter RP forums. Look, we don't want to see ten other rp forums made by our very own members here. That leads to the question, why come here if you already have a forum? I'm sorry, but it has happened too many times to ignore. You know who you are.
- The excessive number of stupid threads that have nothing to do with the Jak storyline. Sorry we have to go back to that, but it's insane.
Those are the main reason of shut-down. We may start up again with a stricter set of rules and other changes like that because this board is already too far gone to repair.

Okay... after I read this I was pretty pissed. Well maybe a little more than that, I was confused, shocked and pissed. There are so many problems with this, I don't even know where to begin... So to make it easier on all of us, I will break the letter down into chunks small enough to examine.

Hmmmm... our discouragement? Seth... do you mean dismay? Maybe you mean "It is with much regret that we must..."?
Sorry... I'm just being picky... I just hate someone who uses words when they don't even know what they mean. Discouragement... that doesn't even make any sense.

I think you mean "reasons for this action are". You could say being if there was only one reason or if action was plural. But enough with the grammatical errors.

Who? Who are these people and what laws? Are fights constantly breaking out? Are people swearing all the time and making it a poor role playing environment?
No. The only rules that your members are breaking are stupid ones. Rules that limit your characters for example (but people aren't even doing that very much). Actually... now that I think about it... I can't even name any rules that are being broken.

This... I don't understand. We were following the storyline exactly, no one ever changed anything from the games. Everyone was role playing their characters in the world of Jak. No, we weren't killing Kor or Mizo or Cyber Erol. Yes, we did make up some of our own characters and yes, they all fit into the world of Jak.
Who is us? You and Cass? You two never role play on anything... ever! You just sit there enforcing rules no one cares about. The idea behind being an admin is running a forum that the people on it will enjoy. If the people on your forum don't enjoy something, you change it. That's just how it works.

This part actually makes me laugh every time I read it. A little insecure, Seth? Scared your forum will become obsolete because yours it the only one that follows superfluous and downright useless rules?
Seth, people have a right to make their own RP forums. They don't have a right to advertise them on your space, but the truth of the matter is, no one is advertising on your space. People are only informing other people of other RP sites through PM and that is perfectly fine.

Is there an echo in here or do you just enjoy repeating yourself? I believe you said the exact same thing right above.

There's nothing to repair and even if there was, I can guarantee that if you shutdown this website and then open a new one with an even stricter set of rules, the only people who will be on it will be you and Cass. You guys can role play under near prison-like rules, but everyone else will be enjoying themselves elsewhere.

The lesson that is to be learned from all this is that running a forum is not about following rules. The only reason you make the rules is so everyone can participate and enjoy the role playing.
Seth and Cass are just children throwing a temper tantrum at heart. They've made up a game and the people they invited to play aren't playing exactly the way they want. All that's going on is that they've decided to throw a fit and smash all the toys. They view it like this: If we can't play exactly the way we want, no one can play at all. I'm sorry, but until Cass and Seth give up their selfrighteous view of running a forum, they will be the kids on the swing that no one wants to play with.
