Sorry, I just need somewhere to vent my frustration. Okay, so recently I got an English project. A very large English project too, probably the biggest one all term. I have to do a monologue.
In case you don't know what a monologue is, I'll explain. It's basically an actor playing a fictional character and all they do is talk to them self. Maybe that doesn't sound so bad, but I'll elaborate. The project is out of 80 marks. 10 of those marks are memorization, 20 are for acting and 20 are for vocal quality. A meager 30 are for what you actually say and what you wrote for your presentation.
Do the math, that's 50 for acting and 30 for your actual English. I may be wrong, but I thought that in most English classes you learn English, not drama. That means that Tolkien (if he had bad acting skills) would fail this project and someone like Tom Cruise would pass with flying colours. If you were to ask me, I would say that it is just plain stupid.
Perhaps it wouldn't be so bad if the book we had to do it on was decent. It's not. It is the worst book that I have ever read in my entire life. It is 10 times worse than anything I have ever read. No joke. Yet the teacher insists on it being an excellent book. Most people in my class agree with me too. I only know one person who enjoyed the book. Now I apologize if anyone here actually liked Shade's Children. But I completely hated it.
I hated each and every one of the flat, unchanging characters. Each one was terrible in it's own unique way. And I had to choose which one I wanted to do a monologue on. Why don't they just ask me what kind of poison I want to drink. Or which kind of spider I want to eat.
Sorry for my very long complaint, but it was just eating me up inside. So let me just say it one more time. I ABSOLUTELY HATE SHADE'S CHILDREN. I hate everything about it, and most of all I hate having to do an English project where most of my marks are based on my acting skills (which aren't very good) instead of my actual English skills. I hate the character Drum, I hate the character Shade, I hate the character Ella, I hate the character Gold-Eye and I hate the character Ninde.
Thank You.
